In Memory: Larry Schwalbe

Lawrence "Larry" Anthony Schwalbe, age 74, of New Brighton, formerly of Avon, passed away peacefully on June 5. He was born on Dec. 13, 1938 to Paul and Teckla (Halama) in St. Cloud. He graduated from Holdingford High School in 1958. After high school he entered into the Army. He proudly served as a sergeant from 1958 - 1962, through two tours during the Korean Conflict.

He married Karen Ehrlichman on April 27, 1963 in Holdingford. Larry retired from Unisys after 35 dedicated years in the electronic business. He was very active in the American Legion Post 513 and Color Guard for over 40 years. He held many positions in the Legion on the post and district levels. Larry was a car mechanic with his brother, Joe at his station. Larry loved to rebuild things and tinker to make things work. He loved fishing, cribbage, family and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Teckla; sisters, Clara and Irene; and brother, Joseph. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, Karen; children, Brandt, Debra (Paul) Kozak, Bradley, Deanna (Mark) Kuhns; granddaughters, Sarina, Alexandra, Samantha, Stephanie, Caitlyn and Rachel; sisters, Evelyn, Doris, and Alma; brothers, Fritz, Cyril and James; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.

Mass of Christian Burial was June 12, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Brighton, followed by interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
