The 622 Education Foundation has scheduled annual “Fun Run”

The District 622 Education Foundation is seeking participants to register for its annual Fun Run, which will be held July 27.

“It pays to register early,” stated Fun Run chairman and event organizer Doug Ronsberg. He emphasized that early registration for the event will cost $20 per person - $15 for kids younger than 16 - if your registration is postmarked before July 13. There are also special rates for a family, up to four members, of $50 if the entry form is postmarked before July 13, or $65 is postmarked after that date.

Participants may also register up to and including the day of the race. After July 13, cost of registering will increase by $5 per category, or $15 per family.

The 2013 Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. and start on First Street in front of North High. The route will wind around the streets of North St. Paul and end up at Polar Arena.

Ronsberg said, “We have a nice mix of competitive runners and family groups, as well as walkers, who have participated in the past.

“New this year will be two free novelty races. They will take place following the conclusion of the 5K race. There will be a 300-meter run for kids age 5 years and under, and there will be a ‘toddler trot.’”

Expected for the race will be vendors along the route and entertainment on site.

“This is a good way to get some good exercise, have some fun with the family and see the community,” suggested Ronstad. He then quipped, “A special order has been placed for perfect weather.”

The event has been held each of the past several years to raise money to support the 622 Education Foundation programs. The three main benificiaries are:

• The Angel Fund assists low-income students in each of the public schools in District 622. The money helps the students purchase a variety of items, including school supplies, backpacks, medical needs and personal hygiene products as well as food.
• The Innovative Teaching Grants program funds requests by teachers and/or students in District 622 for innovative programs they may wish to start or continue.
• The Sta2rs Banquet is held each year to honor those students in the top 10 percent in academic achievement at Tartan and North high schools.
