Rev. Charles Berg, longtime Methodist pastor

Funeral services were held January 31 for the Rev. Charles H. Berg, 92, of New Brighton, a longtime Methodist pastor. He served United Methodist congregations throughout Minnesota, including 10 years at Christ United Methodist Church in south Maplewood. He retired from the ministry after serving as pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in northeast Minneapolis.

Rev. Berg was born February 20, 1922 and was in good health until shortly before his death on January 23, 2015. He enlisted for five years in the Army, spending two of them in Germany during World War II. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University  of Minnesota and received his master’s degree from Drew Seminary in New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by wife Sigrid. Survived by wife Wilma, sisters Helen Berg and Ruth (Dick) Nubson, sons George and Andy, stepchildren Bruce (Cherie) Olsen, Dennis (BJ) Olsen and Cheryl (Neil) Larsen, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The memorial service took place at Community United Methodist Church in Columbia Heights, where he was a member during his retirement years.
