U.S. Speedskating announced its Junior Development Team for 2017-18, the upcoming season. Four of the six named were members of the Midway Speedskating Club. Giorgia Birkeland, Samuel Groven, Adam Johnson and Melanie Pankow skate at the John Rose Oval in Roseville. Chase Erickson and Lindsey Woodbury of Salt Lake City round out the Long Track Jr. Development roster.

All of the skaters will receive a variety of High Performance services, exclusive Under Armour and U.S. Speedskating product and will be invited to attend a U.S. Speedskating Junior Development Camp during the 2017-18 season.

The Jr. Development team consists of the top three athletes, male and female, six in total, in the Overall National Ranking. These are athletes that were 13-14 years old as of July 1 2016. Overall National Rankings are developed from results of the American Cup series races, which is a series of three races each year. The first, American Cup 1, takes place in Roseville the first weekend in December. The second race is held in Milwaukee in January and the American Cup final is in Salt Lake City in March.

Midway Speedskating Club, founded in 1946, is a nonprofit, parent-run organization committed to the development of youth skaters. The club primarily focuses on skaters 18 years and younger, although older skaters who have grown with the club are also coached. Many Midway skaters have participated in the Olympic Games over the years in both long and short track.
