Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf hosts Chili Hubbub

As part of its annual March campaign for Minnesota FoodShare month, the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf will be hosting its third Chili Hubbub on March 11.

This event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. in heated tents on the grounds of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 Fourth St. N., Oakdale. The Chili Hubbub will bring together east metro area restaurants to strut their stuff to determine the favorite chili around. Up to 16 competitors are anticipated with each vendor choosing a chili execution that best represents their restaurant’s strengths.

Reprising last year’s success, there will be a mac & cheese competition and a human foosball tournament. New this year will be a fat-tire bike obstacle course and the opportunity for attendees to pack a weekend food pack for local families in need. This tasting competition will be a family friendly event with games and activities for children along with local, family-friendly musicians performing.

Tickets are $10 per person in advance, $15 at the door, with children ages 12 and under tasting for free. Beer, wine and soda will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit CCEFS with each dollar donated being matched on a pro-rata basis by Minnesota FoodShare.

“Food insecurity remains an issue in our community even as the economy continues to grow,” said Greig Metzger, CCEFS executive director. “For many families, putting healthy food on the table is a discretionary purchase as budgets are overwhelmed by increasing housing, health and transportation costs. As a family friendly event, Chili Hubbub lets families help other families in need, and the great thing about doing this in March is that every dollar raised will be matched on a pro-rata basis by Minnesota FoodShare.”
