Spotlight on genealogy

For the month of October, Washington County libraries are shining a spotlight on genealogy. Perhaps the most interesting story residents will ever encounter come from branches on their own family trees. Genealogy, or the study of exploring family history, opens up a world of information specific to the researcher.

Washington County libraries have tools, events, and materials to help residents explore more about their ancestors. From programs that help residents crack into Genealogy 101 with confidence, to using the Ancestry.com Library Edition, to materials that help search or fill in the historical gaps, residents can find what they need to learn more about the family who came before them with Washington County libraries.

As part of this county-wide spotlight on genealogy, the Lake Elmo Library, 3537 Lake Elmo Ave. N., is hosting Finding Your Ancestors: Genealogy 101, an introduction to internet genealogy class featuring Ancestry Library Edition. The class, held Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m., will demonstrate popular online genealogy resources and offer tips and tricks to get the most out of internet research.

Registration is required. Register online at WashCoLib.org/Events, by phone at 651-275-8515, or in person at Lake Elmo Library. For other dates and locations of genealogy classes, visit www.WashCoLib.link/Genealogy.
