Summer Music Series: The John Penny Trio

The jazz band will play Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Maplewood Library, located at 3025 Southlawn Drive. The performance will include a Q&A about jazz history and culture.


Movie at the farm

Along with a petting zoo, yard games, and a jumping castle, a movie in the barn is set to show at the Bruentrup Farm on Tuesday, Aug. 13. “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” begins at 6:30 p.m. and the grounds will open at 5:30 p.m. The petting zoo will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Hazelwood Park youth soccer

Hazelwood Park’s youth fall soccer league has extended registration until Aug. 12. The co-ed recreational league will have one practice and one game a week. Participants in the U9 through U12 leagues will be able to work with local North East United soccer club coaches. Practices will begin Monday, Aug. 19 and the cost is $65. Commissioner quorom

A commissioner quorum focused on finding solutions to the affordable housing crisis will be free and open to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The quorum will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, located at 6201 Osgood Ave N.



Beekeeping and honey extraction

On Thursday, Aug. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m., participants can visit the Discovery Center at 4444 Hadley Ave. N. to learn more about beekeeping. Those interested can call 651-747-3860 to learn more and register.


Changing church schedule

New Mass times began on Aug. 3 at the Guardian Angels Catholic Community, located at 8260 Fourth St. N. Saturday Masses are now at at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday Masses are at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The church said weekday Masses have not changed times and will continue to be at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tuesday and Thursday Masses will still be at 8:00 a.m. More information can be found at www.guardian-angels.org. 


Summer concert

“Sarah & Skip” will perform works of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Faure and Schumann, along with original works, on Friday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. The concert is at Guardian Angels Catholic Community, located at 8260 Fourth St. N. The church’s summer concerts are funded by free-will offerings.

School reunions

The North St. Paul Class of 1969’s 50th reunion is on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. The event is at the Mermaid Event Center, located at 2200 Mounds View Blvd. in Mounds View. Visit northstpaul1969.com for more information and to register by Aug. 1. 

The 55th class reunion of the 1964 North St. Paul Polars is on Aug. 17 at the North St. Paul VFW. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and advance registration is required. For more information, contact Angela (Goben) Sheedy at sheedyangela@gmail.com. The VFW is located at 2483 Seventh Ave. E.

North St. Paul High School’s class of 1979 is having its 40th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Dugout Bar in Mahtomedi. There is no cost to attend, but a cash bar and food are available to purchase. More information can be found at the Facebook page “Joe Polar.”  


Big Truck Night at the car show

Every week in the summer, Seventh Avenue in downtown North St. Paul turns into “Fabulous Friday” featuring a classic car show, food and music. The event is from 6 to 10 p.m. on Fridays. This week, on Aug. 9, is the 6th Annual Big Truck Night where visitors can climb trucks used by the electric and public works staff. The History Cruzers are looking for “Yellow Shirt” volunteers, whether it be one day or every Friday. Call Paul Houliston at 651-210-9645 to volunteer.

Film screening

A free screening of the BBC documentary film “Climate Change ñ The Facts” will be shown Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 6:30 pm. The film will be shown at the White Bear Lake Library, located at 2150 Second St. The film premiered on the BBC in April 2019. For more information, call 612-965-8284.


Oak Park Heights


Corvette show

The 18th annual Corvettes at Stillwater show will come to Oak Park Heights on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Stillwater Motors, located at 5900 Stillwater Blvd. Attendees can visit the event between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. with a vehicle entrance fee of $15. The first 135 participants will get a free T-shirt, and a free shuttle to downtown Stillwater will be available. The event will also have charity raffle tickets and prizes.
