Third grader fires officer’s holstered gun at Maplewood school; no injuries


Aundrea Kinney/Review • A school liaison officer was talking with students at Harmony Learning Center in Maplewood Feb. 5 when a child stuck his finger into the officer’s gun holster and pulled the gun’s trigger. The gun fired into the floor but no one was hurt.

No one was hurt by an unintentional gunshot fired Feb. 5 when a third grader pulled the trigger on a police officer’s holstered gun at the Harmony Learning Center, a special education school in Maplewood.

The stolen car has damage on the rear driver’s side bumper and a Minnesota license plate with the number 2DG309.

Dogs safely returned home the following day, but thief still at large.

Maplewood city council approves changes for a more efficient fire department


file photo • Changes are in store for the Maplewood Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, which will begin transitioning from a primarily part-time workforce to an entirely full-time workforce. Part-time firefighters will only be employed until March 1, but are encouraged to apply for the department’s nine new full-time positions.

Part-time firefighters to be terminated in favor of more full-time positions.

Maplewood liquor store owner shoots and kills attempted robber

Police closing in on second suspect.

While many area residents were busy shoveling snow or hiding indoors from the Jan. 22 snowstorm, two men attempted to rob Princess Liquors in Maplewood at about 6:45 p.m.

Maplewood business setting interior design trend


Aundrea Kinney photos/Review • Steve Cody, owner of LuxNova Stone, opened his Maplewood showroom July 2017 to display thinly sliced stone, which can be used for any number of home or business design projects. Because the stone is sliced so thin, it is lightweight and often can be backlit with white or colored light.

For about six months, Maplewood has been home to LuxNova Stone, a company which, according to the owner, is at the forefront of the stonework and home design industries.

Maplewood council agrees to 3.5 percent increase in property tax levy

The Maplewood City Council unanimously passed a 2018 property tax levy with an increase of about 3.5 percent over 2017.
