Marjorie Otto photos/Review
A classic fair tradition is checking out items residents have made and entered at the fair. There were jars of preserves, baked goods, hand-sewn items and art that Ramsey County residents entered to be judged.
The Ramsey County Fair prides itself on being one of the few free admission fairs with plenty of free entertainment, including talent shows, live bands, bingo and other activities.
Farmer Norm, the magician farmer, was a hit with the kids, pulling objects from behind their ears and making things appear and disappear, all while teaching them about the impact of Minnesota farmers.
Some families opted for a nontraditional family portrait at the fair.
A favorite attraction at the fair was the petting zoo, where families could feed a slew of unique animals including camels, alpacas, goats, zebus, donkeys and more.
A popular activity at the fair — for both adults and kids — was floating on water in a bubble. The trick was trying to stay up while running around.
While it was quite toasty, some visitors tried to cool off while being flung through the air on midway rides.
