Century College recently honored its Outstanding Students for 2005-2006. Faculty members in each discipline and program at the college chose one student to receive the award. Students were also honored for their leadership and participation in college clubs and activities. The outstanding students include Justine Greene of Shoreview (interior design).

Concordia College juniors Leigh Bonemeyer and Jessica Osebold, both of Shoreview, partcipated in the Moorhead school’s May Seminars Abroad program. Bonemeyer studied in the Galapagos Islands, and Osebold in France.

A Purple and Gold Award, the University of Northern Iowa’s recognition symbol of “meritorious scholarship or achievement,” was presented during recent graduation exercises to Kaitlin Stimpson of Vadnais Heights.

St. Anthony Village High School students James Benhardus, Sam Crocker, Maggie Hintz, Emily Johnson, Kelsey Larson, and Jacob Martin were selected to participate in this year’s All State Bands and Choir. The musicians will attend a weeklong camp in August, tuning up for a February concert date at Orchestra Hall.

Matt Yauch of Arden Hills has been elected to Lawrence University’s chapter of Lambda Sigma, the national honor society. Yauch is a sophomore at the Appleton, Wis. school.

Concordia University student MaryLynn Mennicke of New Brighton was named a Collegiate State semi-finalist recently by the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Mennicke is a junior vocal music education and theater major at the St. Paul school.

Tracy Kolstad of Mounds View was recently inducted into the Luther College Beta Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honor society. Kolstad is a senior music and mathematics major at the Decorah, Iowa school.

Photographer Gary Jacobsen of New Brighton was named the first place winner recently in the online photo contest sponsored by BetterPhoto.com. His winning image, one of 24,600 submitted, is entitled “Wolf Pack.” The image, along with all of the winning photos in 10 categories, can be accessed at betterphoto.com/contest/winners/0603.asp. Ian Brekke of Shoreview received the Outstanding History Student award from the faculty at Concordia University this spring. Brekke is a sophomore at the St. Paul school.

Hannah Turgerson of Shoreview was awarded a Student Research Fellowship at Concordia University. Turgerson is a sophomore at the St. Paul school.

Anna Fabian of New Brighton and Ashley Aamodt of Shoreview were recognized recently at an Iowa State University Scholars and Leaders ceremony for their academic achievements. Both women finished the year in the top 2 percent of their class.



Recent Concordia University graduate Megan Rower of Shoreview received the Distinguished Scholar in English Award from the faculty this spring.

Sree Atluru of Shoreview has been elected to the Student Council at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the upcoming school year.

Michelle Ault of Arden Hills and Andre’ Cretella of Shoreview were initiated recently into the Drake University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society. Ault and Cretella are sophomores at the Des Moines, Iowa school.

Irondale High School student Scott Gavett of Mounds View has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School scholars.

Marcia Weber of Shoreview has been named the 2006 Outstanding Aluma Member by the Twin Cities Alumnae Association of Kappa Delta Sorority, in recognition of her volunteer work. Weber was the head of the Clinical Microbiology Department at the University of Minnesota Hospital until her retirement.
