Man tied up, blindfolded during home invasion
Homeowner still away

Michael Wilcox
Review staff

A man was bound and blindfolded by intruders the evening of July 30 as the West St. Paul house he was staying in was burglarized.

Two or three men entered the house through an "unlocked entryway," Lt. Brian Sturgeon said in an interview last week. One man carried a semiautomatic handgun.

They found a man who was not the homeowner but was staying in the house on the 200 block of Dakota Street. They tied him up and blindfolded him with a T-shirt, Sturgeon said.

The men stole a computer, cell phones and possibly other items. The man was unsure if there were two or three men or what exactly was taken.

Police have no firm leads or suspects, though there may be connections between the robbers and the homeowner, Sturgeon said. Neighbors also did not see the burglars.

The homeowner is on vacation and had not been reached by police at press time.

Home break-ins involving armed intruders such as this are rare, Sturgeon said.

"Usually there's some type of connection, somewhere ... it's usually not random."
