Inver Hills voter registration effort recognized
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie recognized the achievements of Inver Hills Community College as part of a voter registration initiative by the Minnesota State College Student Association (MSCSA).

Ritchie addressed students of MSCSA at their Annual Fall Leadership Conference.

Students from Minnesota's two-year community and technical colleges contacted and registered over 8,000 student voters. Inver Hills received an award for their work in reaching the highest number of students, 1,432.

The success of Inver Hills was also unique because it featured a coalition of several student organizations including Phi Theta Kappa and Student Senate, among others. This coordination by campus clubs allowed volunteers to band together to reach over 700 students in the last days before the Oct. 14 registration deadline.

Statewide participation was a key to the success of this effort with over 30 campuses from across the state participating actively in the efforts.

According to MSCSA President Jacob Littler, "Getting students out to vote is key to what we try to do as student advocates. When students become more civically engaged, they make sure that legislators know they are a voice to be listened to."
