A neighborhood party held in Maplewood near the corner of Lydia Avenue and Howard Street offered neighbors a chance to chat over delicious food and yard games. A visitor from the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office brought stickers for the children, and a Maplewood police officer brought color-changing pencils, which were a big hit.
Lake Elmo held its first city-wide National Night Out event in Lions Park Aug. 7, marking the 35th anniversary of the national community-building campaign. The festivities in Lake Elmo included a variety of emergency vehicles on display, live music, pedal-powered go-carts and a bounce house, as well as booths from several local businesses offering a variety of snacks, crafts, games and freebees to those in attendance.
The event at North St. Paul’s Casey Lake Park included a visit from firefighters and police officers, a bounce house and a cake walk, in which kids won prizes like snacks, plastic baseball bats, bubbles or water toys.
Vivian was one of the lucky kids who got a chance to test out the driver’s seat of an Oakdale ambulance, which was parked at a National Night Out party in the 6900 block of 26th Street in Oakdale.
