A Russian attack on July 8 left 37 dead and over 170 wounded. Zelensky: Russian terrorists must be held accountable

More than 170 people were injured, while at least 37 people were killed in Russian attacks across the country on July 8, President Volodymyr Zelensky was quoted as saying by The Kyiv Independent.

“Russian terrorists must take responsibility for this. Mere concern will not stop terrorism. Compassion is not a weapon,” Zelensky said. The state emergency service said the airstrikes targeted Kiev, Dnipro, Krivi Rih, Sloviansk, Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk.

The July 8 attack was the worst in months. According to Zelensky, almost 100 facilities were damaged, including maternity and children’s hospitals, a business center, a college, several houses and kindergartens.

“We must shoot down the Russian missiles. We must destroy the Russian fighter jets where they are. We must take concrete steps to ensure that there is no security deficit,” the president said.

“The world has the power to do it. The stakeholders can do it,” he added. According to local officials, the Russian military stormed Okhmatdyt Hospital, Ukraine’s largest children’s medical center, in the early hours of July 8, killing at least two people and injuring at least 50, including seven children. In a separate attack on Kiev later, debris hit the Isida maternity hospital, killing seven people and wounding three others, the state prosecutor’s office said.
