Deyon ‘Smoke’ Bouie is committed to Georgia from the transfer gate

Smoke Bouie declared his loyalty to the Georgia Bulldogs. This is a familiar phrase for those who follow college football and Georgia recruiting.

The defensive back was originally committed to Georgia while at Bainbridge High School. From November 1, 2020, to June 8, 2021, Bowie was a part of UGA’s Class of 2022. Bowie dropped out of Georgia and eventually followed former Georgia Defensive Quality Control coach Nick Williams to Texas A&M.

Bowie was part of the legendary recruiting class that Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies put together in their last recruiting cycle. However, after a 5-7 season at College Station, A&M saw 25 players hit the transfer portal. Bowie was one of the standouts and one of the few that Georgia remained interested in coming out of its SEC West counterpart.

Bowie will have four years of eligibility remaining upon joining Georgia. Bowie played in just four games for A&M in the 2022 season. Bowie recorded four tackles and a pass deflection in games against Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Florida, and Massachusetts.

It really is a complete Bowie and Georgia moment. The former four-star prospect ranked 120th overall in the class of 2022. As a freshman, Bowie helped lead the Bainbridge Bearcats to a state championship win over a talented Warner Robins team.

His colleague Kirby Smart from Bainbridge attended and was very impressed. The speedster received his offer from the Georgia Bulldogs the next day. It says a lot that Georgia never gave up in her pursuit of Bowie, even with a knee injury and a detour through College Station.
