An elderly woman was shot dead and two men were injured when an argument erupted after a graduation ceremony at Morris Jeff High School in New Orleans on Tuesday. Fox8 websiteCiting the local police.
New Orleans Police Officer Christopher Goodley described the incident as “an act of irresponsible violence” that began in an argument between two women whose age has not been revealed. The incident, which took place in a parking lot, quickly escalated and was followed by disarming and firing, police said. The woman who was shot is suspected to have been the hostage victim in the incident.
Witnesses told Fox8 they heard 5 to 12 gunshots.
Police did not release the age of the woman killed or the age of the two injured, but only said the latter had shoulder and leg injuries.
Investigators are now trying to find out how many people were shot, their identities and whether they were students, friends or relatives of high school graduates.
The woman killed on Tuesday is the 121st victim in the first 151 days of this year, surpassing the number of 119 victims already killed throughout 2019.
