Packers QB Rodgers (Ribs) coming off loss to the Eagles in the third quarter

Philadelphia – Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers Sunday night’s 40-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the third quarter left him with what the team described as a slash injury, though Rodgers clarified after the game that the injury was actually in his ribs.

Rodgers, 38, said it was difficult to tell from X-rays if he had broken ribs, but said he did not have a punctured lung.

Rodgers had just led a drive that culminated in a Packers field goal to cut the Eagles’ lead to 34-23 with 2:03 remaining in the third quarter. He appeared to be feeling a bit uncomfortable on the drive, then trotted into the locker room with several members of the team’s medical staff.

Rodgers explained after the match that he “was having trouble breathing and rotating my upper body”.

Earlier this week, Rodgers revealed that the thumb injury he’s been playing with since Week 5 is actually a broken bone. But he had no sign of any injury to his midsection until the second half of Sunday. To this point, the Eagles have had five quarterback hits on Rodgers, including three sacks. The third sack came on the opening drive of the third quarter. Rodgers played one more series before going to the locker room for a check.

Rodgers completed 11 of 16 passes for 140 yards with two touchdowns before leaving the field. He also threw two interceptions in the first half for the second time in four weeks; He also had two in the first half of Green Bay’s Week 9 loss at Detroit. He’s increased his interception total for the season to nine, already the most thrown in a single season since 2010 (when he had 11).
