When the Broncos traded Russell Wilson last year, one of the ways they used to roll out the red carpet for him was to give him his own office in the team’s facility, on the second floor where offices for the Broncos’ coaches and executives are located. Some trainers have problems with that.
According to a lengthy TheAthletic.com article about Wilson’s first season in Denver, members of the coaching staff believed that separating Wilson from his teammates was bad for the camaraderie in the locker room. One coach said that Wilson told his teammates that his office door was always open for them, but that coach questioned why a player had an office with a door at all.
“So, Are you a coach or are you a player? asked the coach. “Your open door must be you sitting in your locker.”
Another coach said that having the office on the second floor separated Wilson from the players.
“The players were always on the first floor; they never really went up to the second floor,” the coach said.
