At least 19 people, including nine children, have been killed in a building fire near New York’s Bronx, U.S. News reports. Authorities expect the death toll to rise.
More than 60 people were injured in a massive fire that broke out in an apartment building in the Bronx on Sunday, with dozens injured, officials said. According to the New York Times, the fire broke out in the duplex apartment on the second and third floors, although the fire did not spread and there was smoke throughout the building.
200 firefighters were called to the scene. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Authorities expect several casualties

Firefighters arrived at the scene three minutes after the initial call. As the smoke continued to spread in the building, the commissioner said, the victims were found on the stairs. Negro noticed a door open, which allowed fire and smoke to spread ABC.
