Telephone conversation between Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milli and General Staff Valery Gerasimov, the Russian envoy to the Russian military, on various “worrying” security issues

According to Col. Dave Butler, a civil service spokesman quoted by News.ro, Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Millie spoke by telephone with Russian Army General Valerie Gerasimo on Thursday. The two top officials discussed various “worrying” security issues.

This is the first conversation between the two leaders since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24. There are various “worrying” security issues on the agenda.

“Military leaders have discussed a number of security concerns and agreed to open communication channels,” a spokesman said in a statement.

Millie’s conversation with Gerasimov comes six days after US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu, for the first time since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The conversation between Austin and Shoiku lasted about an hour. Austin used the call to urge the Russian delegation to implement an “immediate ceasefire” in Ukraine.
