The Red Sox game stalled after the first responders called the bullpen

First responders and paramedics were called to the Boston Red Sox moments after the start of their game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. Video from the scene showed Red Sox players and coaches waving to first responders to rush into the bullpen at Citizens Bank Ballpark. A spectator fell off a banister at the stadium and into the Red Sox bullpen. Multiple reports indicate that a ball was thrown at the fan and landed in the flower bed that sits at the bottom of the fence above the visitor’s corner. It appears the fan tried to reach down for the ball, then fell, and ended up in the bullpen. Fan was placed on a stretcher and removed from the field by paramedics. Video broadcast by NBC Sports Philadelphia showed the fan was conscious and alert. The video showed the fan holding her head up and chatting to first responders as he was led off the field. “I think he’s a very lucky guy,” Phillies broadcaster John Kruk said. “He’s talking and all his limbs seem to be working. I mean, it’s scary.” The fan was taken to the trauma center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, according to medical personnel at the scene. The visiting team’s home field at Citizens Bank Ballpark is located in the center of the stadium. Boston’s second batter, Masataka Yoshida, was facing Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler when Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado ran off the infield and into the outfield. The medical personnel quickly ran to the second level of the barn as the Red Sox relievers looked on nearby. Wearing a Phillies jersey, the spectator was strapped to a backboard and taken from the bullpen and field on a stretcher and wagon. The match resumed after a delay of about 10 minutes. Multiple reports indicate that a ball was thrown at the fan and landed in the flower bed that sits at the bottom of the fence above the visitor’s corner.

It appears the fan tried to reach down for the ball, then fell, and ended up in the bullpen.

Fan was placed on a stretcher and removed from the field by paramedics.

Video broadcast by NBC Sports Philadelphia showed the fan was conscious and alert. The video showed the fan holding its head up and speaking to first responders as he was being carried off the field.

“I think he’s a very lucky guy,” Phillies broadcaster John Crook said. “He’s talking and all his limbs seem to be working. I mean, it’s scary.”

The fan was taken to the Trauma Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, according to medical staff at the scene.

The visiting bullpen team is located at Citizens Bank Ballpark in center field.

Boston’s second batter, Masataka Yoshida, was facing Philadelphia’s Zach Wheeler when Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado ran off the base of the bullpen and into the outfield. Medical personnel quickly ran to the second level of the spot as Red Sox relievers looked on nearby.

Security personnel immediately cleared the fans from the railing at Ashburn Alley, which sits near the visitor, as medical responders attended to the fan, who was wearing a Phillies jersey.

The spectator was tied to a backboard and taken from the base of the oxen and paddock on a stretcher and cart.

The game resumed after a delay of about 10 minutes.
