During the last evening production of Broadway Death of a Salesman showrunners say an audience member becomes obnoxious and angry. According to Vanity FairThe woman actually became so annoying, that the show had to be stopped in order to get her off the premises. Production star Wendell Pierce found himself having to break character to help control the situation from the stage.

The Washington Post reported that the woman first began to make a commotion from her seat, and seemed to leave during the three-hour theatrical intermission. However, it wasn’t until the second act of production that she really started acting like an idiot. (No, it wasn’t Karen this time — insert embarrassed face emoji.)

A witness stated that “the angry audience member, apparently drunk, disrupted the second act of the play so intensely that the work had to be suspended”. Eventually, the stage turned up the house lights at which point Pearce “patiently and heroically pleaded with her to leave in peace despite her insistence that she be carried out by force (she was eventually escorted by the police).”

In the Clip seen here On Twitter, the woman in the front row puts on her fur coat and hat, preparing to leave. She seems to be going back and forth with Pierce remaining cool, calm, and collected onstage trying to reason with her, even though you can’t quite hear what’s being said. Halfway through the two-minute video, the camera pans to two security guards walking down the aisle of the theater approaching the woman. The audience cheers the fact that the woman will be removed, and hope they can return to their show in peace.

One Instagram user wrote, “Pierce is seamlessly back in the role of a lifetime – his first on Broadway in three decades – the acting job is more than impressive considering the real-life drama that could have derailed the entire night.”

Meanwhile, a Reddit user shared that the woman had been lugging around in her purse for the entire first act of the play and responding loudly to the actors on stage. The same person claimed that the woman would not leave without getting her money back, and so Pierce arranged for someone to quickly take some cash just to get the woman on her way.

In a statement from the show’s producers, the showrunners said, “We are grateful to the entire team at the Hudson Theater for working together to resolve the situation and to resume performing as soon as possible.”

Let’s do better this year, shall we?
