PARIS (AFP) – French police were searching for armed robbers on Saturday who attacked a jewelry store on one of Paris’s most prestigious streets, and media reports said the target was the exclusive boutique of Harry Winston, which calls itself “the jeweler to the stars.”

The store worker who picked up the phone said that the jeweler was robbed on Saturday, but he hung up without providing details or his name. The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office supervising the investigation identified the location of the theft as Avenue Montaigne, where Harry Winston is located. Its dazzling boutique is by appointmentBut it did not confirm that the jeweler was the target.

Harry Winston did not immediately respond to emailed questions from The Associated Press. Neither the police nor the public prosecutor’s office said whether the thieves stole the jewelry, and if so, how much it was worth. This is not the first time the luxury store has been robbed.
