The ChatGPT AI chatbot can now retrieve information from online sources and interact with third-party websites via a new plug-in feature introduced by its creator, OpenAI.
The plug-in feature is still in its “limited” alpha stage and will only be available to a small group of users initially before it is released to “wide access.” Users must add themselves to a queue in order to access the new feature in GPT Plus chat, company He said In the March 23 announcement.
Initially, only 11 plugins are available. These plug-ins range from allowing users to check out dozens of live sporting events to booking an international flight and purchasing food for home delivery. The company added that it is “gradually rolling out the plugins” so you can evaluate their real-world use.
“Plug-ins are tools specifically designed for language models with safety as a fundamental principle, and help ChatGPT access the latest information, run calculations, or use third-party services,” said OpenAI.
Among the range of websites supported by the new plugin feature are e-commerce platforms Shopify, Klarna, Instacart, and travel search engines Expedia and KAYAK.
It also supports the mathematical computer Wolfram for calculations, and Slack, one of the largest business messaging applications, according to the announcement.
Other apps include FiscalNote, Milo Family AI, OpenTable, Shop, Speak, and Zapier.

ChatGPT uses the Bing API to search for information along with a text-based web browser to navigate results and interact with websites.
It is able to aggregate information across multiple sources to give a more coherent response. It also cites the sources I use so that users can verify the source of the ChatGPT responses.
OpenAI said the plug-in capabilities came on the back of high demand from its user base since the company launched ChatGPT on November 30.
