Based on the bestselling book by David Gran and written for the screen by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, the picture is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial killings of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation, a series of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

Other guests who attended the event included Lily Gladstone, Tatanka Means, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Cate Blanchett, Tobey Maguire, Salma Hayek, Isabelle Huppert, Lukas Haas, Paul Dano, Anais Demoustier, Robbie Williams, Princess Caroline of Monaco, Charlotte Casiraghi, Irina Shayk, Riccardo Tisci, Lorena Ray, and Josephine Skriver.

Discussing his interest in Gran’s book in an exclusive interview with Deadline ahead of Cannes, Scorsese said he first responded to the “natural order of things” shown in the narrative.

“The idea that one can justify that if the Osages are of no use, if they are going to be phased out anyway, why not just help them, you know, leave” he said. “And in the end, do we really feel any guilt over it? I mean not you and I, but when you do what was done to the Osage, and if you tend to dehumanize someone.”

The picture was produced by Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions, and Appian Way. Other producers include Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Daniel Luby. The executive producers are DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Sommer, Marian Bauer, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer, and Nils Juul. Jesse Plemons also stars alongside Lily Gladstone and is set to hit the red carpet tonight alongside the wider cast.
