Kim said this type of petition could be a political coup by President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, but there was no evidence to support his claim.

Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement last week that Moscow plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, a public petition appeared on the website of the President’s Office on Thursday calling for Ukraine to host nuclear weapons on its soil or arm itself with its own nuclear weapons.

As of Saturday afternoon, the petition had 611 signatures, short of the 25,000 required for Zelensky’s response. Officials in Kiev have yet to comment on the petition.

After Russia invaded Ukraine last year, North Korea has been forging closer ties with the Kremlin amid a collective isolation from the West, which has backed Moscow’s stance. He denied supplying arms to Moscow.
