Britain’s ‘wedding of the year’ had some familiar faces despite Prince Harry declining his invitation.
On Friday, Prince William attended the lavish wedding of his friend Hugh Grosvenor at Chester Cathedral in northern England, where he served as servant.
The Prince of Wales (41 years old) looked elegant, wearing a black coat over a bright white shirt, when he quickly entered the cathedral without welcoming the crowd gathered outside.
The prince was seen getting out of a black Mercedes car with other guests, before immediately entering the historic place.
However, his wife, Kate Middleton, and his father, King Charles III, were absent from the exclusive event while he underwent cancer treatment.
The Duke of Westminster, who has a net worth of nearly $13 billion, and his current bride, Olivia Henson, invited more than 400 people to the party.
Following the traditional ceremony, guests traveled 15 minutes to Eaton Hall, the 11,000-acre Grosvenor County home, for the reception.
Sunday times He described the event as “the most non-royal royal wedding of the year, as members of Britain’s oldest and richest aristocratic families head north.”
Grosvenor’s godfather is the king himself, who in turn is godfather to William and Middleton’s 10-year-old son, Prince George, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 5-year-old son, Archie.
The 33-year-old is one of the few people who has re-established close friendships with the brothers amid their ongoing feud.
Although Harry was invited to his wedding, we’re told the Duke of Sussex, 39, declined the invitation for fear his reunion with William would overshadow the big day.
In December, an insider told Page Six that Harry personally called his friend to explain the situation and the pair mutually agreed that it would be best if he didn’t come.
The source said: “Harry actually got a ‘save the date’ card a few months ago, but he called Hugh and said it would be very awkward if he and Meghan Markle attended, so he apologized and Hugh understood.
At the time, the exiled prince was also unaware of the health problems of his estranged sister-in-law, and feared a reunion between her and his wife.
This could have been the first meeting between Markle and Middleton since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.
Meanwhile, we were previously told that the brothers haven’t spoken in over a year.
