Last year, Elon Musk made a surprise visit to his home in New Mexico around 2:30 a.m. to wish him luck on his first space flight, Richard Bronson said in an interview this weekend.
“I think it was about 2:30 in the morning,” Branson told the newspaper. “I got up two hours earlier than I was supposed to and jumped out of bed and then I actually realized I had got the wrong time but by then I was wide awake.”
He said he went down to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee and found, “Elon decided to surprise us. He was there with his kid. Basically, he’s a nocturnal animal. He doesn’t really sleep at night and sleeps in the day. We’d make a pot of tea and just sit outside under the stars and catch him.” .
Musk later joined Branson at the New Mexico spaceport before ascending the latter for 90 minutes. Virgo galaxy to experience weightlessness for a brief period, beating Jeff Bezu’s Blue Origin Journey by nine days.
Virgin Galactic’s next flight is this summer and Branson said he’d be “glad” to have the musk fly sometime, “but it’s clearly full [with Twitter] at the moment.”
Musk said he’d rather ride Virgin Galactic Because SpaceX More focused on orbital space.
“There’s a big difference that the public doesn’t fully appreciate between orbital and suborbital spaceflight,” Musk told the paper 12 years ago. “To take an orbital spaceflight, you need to have a terminal velocity of 25 times the speed of sound — Mach 25. Whereas you can get away with a terminal velocity of Mach 3 in sub-orbit.”
He added at the time, “What Branson’s doing is great. He’s great and I’ve already bought a ticket. I’ve asked for a date. I’m not sure exactly what time but I intend to fly on this thing.”
Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter, has yet to fly.
“Elon is very smart and over-driven,” Branson told The Times. “I admire his talent and willingness to take calculated risks. He was inches away from failure on so many occasions and kept pushing. He is the Henry Ford of his generation.”
