Embattled ABC News President Kim Goodwin announced she was resigning Sunday night, facing intense scrutiny from her bosses at the company over her job performance — and months after being stripped of much of her power, sources confirmed to The Post.
“I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism,” Goodwin said in a memo to staff obtained by The Washington Post.
“Over the years, hundreds of you have sent emails, text messages and made phone calls that have warmed my heart. In this important election year, and as we look to the months ahead, the importance of what we are doing cannot be overstated,” she added in her note, praising the News Department’s accomplishments over the years. Her take: “Remember, there is fun in journalism.”
“I leave with my head held high and wish the entire team continued success,” she said.
But Goodwin appeared to lose most of her influence when she was effectively demoted in February after Disney, which owns ABC News, underwent a restructuring, insiders previously told The Post.

Goodwin’s departure comes as Disney Enterprises conducts a comprehensive review of its leadership. CNN reported last week.
The channel said that Debra O’Connell, who was promoted to a leadership position that puts ABC News under her responsibility, was shocked by Goodwin’s mismanagement of the money-making division that includes “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight.”
