Russian forces were semi-encircled at Bahmut

General Oleksandr Chirsky, commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said in an interview. BBC Now all the conditions were created for the recapture of Bahmuth.

According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine switched to aggressive offensive operations to improve the tactical position and close Bahmut on the flanks in order to create conditions for a complete encirclement of the war-torn city.

“Currently the position of the Russian troops resembles such an arc, which is concentrated in Bahmut. And they are in a semicircle. Well, it is impossible not to take advantage of it,” Cirsky said.

Colonel General Sirski claimed that his forces could recapture Bahmut with 10 times less casualties than the mercenaries of Wagner’s group who captured the city.

The general also explained why Ukraine’s recapture of Bahmut is strategically important.

“First, Bahmut is the center of major directions and roads. Well, for example, a road from Debaltsevo, a road from Seversk, a road from Korlovka, a road from Konstantinovka and a road from Slavyansk pass through Bahmut. That is, this is the center where all these roads converge,” says Srusky. “Using a developed network of roads, Russian troops can advance in at least three ways in these operational directions. Also, in general, the area around Bahmut is a concentration of various types of dominant heights, which allows controlling most of the surrounding area from the outskirts of Bahmut. This enhances its role as a catalyst for further offensive operations.”

“Actually, three kilometers beyond Bahmut, the next town begins, Chisov Ir. It is very important for us to stop the enemy in Bahmut, which is located here on the plain,” said the commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
