LETTER: Washington County Law Library can help for free

To the Editor:

While enjoying the latest edition of the Oakdale-Lake Elmo Review that arrived at my home, I came across the submission from the Roseville Public Library about the legal resources that they have available. I had several thoughts. First, thank you to the library for the fantastic work that they do in providing this help to folks. Second, I wanted people to be aware that the Washington County Law Library is also free and open to the public at the courthouse in Stillwater.

The Law Library has a very large selection of legal resources including access to the computerized Westlaw service. The library is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and is staffed by a full-time law librarian. The law library also features two clinics (family law and civil law) where folks, with an appointment, can receive a free 30 minute consultation from a volunteer attorney.

Finally, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays a self-help center, staffed with lawyers,  is also available for free, on a drop-in basis, at the Stillwater Courthouse.
