Russia threatens to attack British targets “on the territory of Ukraine and beyond its borders”. Warning by Maria Zaharova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova threatened on Thursday that Moscow would attack British targets if Ukraine uses weapons made in Great Britain to attack inside Russian territory, Agerpres reported, citing Reuters.

In such a scenario, British targets could be attacked “on the territory of Ukraine and beyond its borders,” Zakharova told reporters.

A Russian diplomatic spokesman reiterated Moscow’s warning earlier this month after British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said Ukraine had the right to use London-supplied weapons to attack targets inside Russia.

Russia reacted angrily to the comment and cited it as one of the reasons it chose to hold tactical nuclear missile launch simulation exercises this month.

From September 2022, the Kremlin added the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk (east), Zaporizhia and Kherson (south) to the Russian Federation. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. During the large-scale Russian invasion, Ukrainian armed forces repeatedly attacked Russian targets in these regions, including British Storm Shadow missiles, Ukrainian news agency Union recalled.

Since the first delivery of Western weapons to Ukraine, Ukrainian forces have been allowed to use them throughout the country, but not on Russian territory, the noted press agency also recalled.
